Spring Break March 15-19
Grades 5 and 8 Testing on April 6th and 7th

Students in Grades 5 and 8 will be taking the TAKS Mathematics test on Tuesday, April 6th and the TAKS Reading test on Wednesday, April 7th.  These students are required to pass the mathematics and reading tests in order to be promoted to the next grade.    TAKS tests are untimed.  Students will have as long as they need to complete the tests.  If a student is not through testing at the end of the regular school day, he will continue to test and his parents will be notified.  When the student has finished testing, he will be allowed to call a parent to come get him. If it is not possible for the parent to pick the student up, the parent may give school personnel permission to take the student home, provided there is a school employee available.
If parents have questions about whether their child is testing, please feel free to contact the school for clarification.  It is very important that students who are not ill be in school on these testing days.   Parents are encouraged to change non-emergency doctor and dentist appointments to avoid conflicts with these testing dates.   Students and teachers have been working hard to prepare for these state tests.  In order to give students every advantage possible, parents are encouraged to see that potential testers have a good night’s sleep prior to the exams.  It is also important that they have a good breakfast and arrive at school on time.   Parents with questions should contact the principal of the child’s school.

Cisco Lobo Early Achievement Program Students Launch into

New Opportunities

The Cisco Lobo Early Achievement Program (LEAP) is an early college opportunity, offered by Cisco Independent School District.  The program provides students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree through Cisco College as part of their high school curriculum. Cisco ISD began the LEAP program in the fall of 2008. The program now has 27 students in grades 9-12. During the course of the fall semester, students earned a total of 172 college hours.  Courses are delivered on both the Cisco High School and the Cisco College campus, through distance learning, and online.  Students are also encouraged to take summer college courses and participate in various academic activities. Tomas Hernandez, a junior at Cisco High School, has been accepted past the first round of eliminations for the High School Aerospace Scholars program at NASA Johnson Space Center. During the spring of 2010, Tomas will be allowed to take a semester-long science course offered through the NASA program where he will attempt to complete the requirements to participate in the summer internship program where he will interact with engineers at the Johnson Space Center. Cisco ISD is proud of the accomplishments of the students in the LEAP program and extends its thanks to Cisco College for their partnership in educating the students at Cisco High School. For more information about the LEAP program at Cisco ISD contact Dr. Cassidy McBrayer, Director of Instruction at 254-442-3056.
